Indonesia – Yogyakarta to Bromo

March 2nd, 2009

Day 3 – One day a German, Japanese, Korean, British and Mongolian got into a minibus… no this isn’t the start of a really bad joke, just our fellow passengers/travellers on the 11 hour ride from Jogya to Mount Bromo. We started out from Duta Garden, Jogya at 8:30am and reached the basecamp at Cemoro Lawang around the 9:00pm mark… just in time to catch last order in the local restos. While the journey was tiring, bumpy, cramped and felt like 24 hours, I’d do it two times over after witnessing Mount Bromo! Read the rest of this entry »

Indonesia – Yogyakarta

February 28th, 2009

Day 1 – Nothing but a lot of travelling! Dubai to Jakarta took about 8hrs or so reaching Jakarta at 3:30pm. We had to hang around the airport for our connecting flight to Jogya at 7:00pm. By the end of it we only reached our hotel (Duta Garden) at about 8:45pm… found a nice resto just outside and kicked back with a Bintang.

Day 2 – Was all about the exploring! Went to Borobadur, Merapi and Prambanan… pics below. More info later. Read the rest of this entry »

Competition must be getting tough around the Bur Dubai area. One entrepreneurial pimp has decided to go mobile with their very own dial-a-’hor’ service.

My hump, my hump

…or lack of lady lumps in Miss Huzaifa’s case.

Here’s a print ad for Al Huzaifa Furniture that was published in a few newspapers and magazines.

Al Huzaifa Furniture - Bump Ad

‘Cheeky’ but nothing really offensive with that ad (the chair though is just plain wrong). However, officials disagreed and the campaign was pulled… well, almost. Here’s how it probably went down (it’s funnier if you read it with a thick accent).

Official 1: Okay, we have told the ad agency about this offence and have fined them heavily.

Official 2: Well done and what about the media?

Official 1: The papers and magazines have been alerted and will remove this advert from all new issues.

Official 2: Excellent! You’ve done well.

Official 1: There is one small problem… we have a unipole banner on Shk Zayed Road which cannot be taken down.

Official 2: Hmmm… Don’t worry, I have an idea.

Someone, somewhere got a ‘bum’ deal out of this!
