My hump, my hump
…or lack of lady lumps in Miss Huzaifa’s case.
Here’s a print ad for Al Huzaifa Furniture that was published in a few newspapers and magazines.

‘Cheeky’ but nothing particularly offensive with the ad (unless you were actually sitting on the chair… that’d be one hell of a wedgie!), however Dubai Municipality disagreed. Solution? Easy enough, with print media just don’t run the ad or use a different execution; ‘butt’ when you’ve spent thousands on a massive unipole on Sheikh Zayed Road, chances are you’re going to try and find some sort of a compromise…

Well, one thing’s for sure… someone, somewhere got a ‘bum’ deal out of this! online pharmacy propecia cialis viagra levitra

Sharjah Desert Park
For all the shame and controversy regarding the Dubai Zoo, it’s heartening to know that neighbouring emirates are doing their part towards the preservation of wildlife in the UAE. Sadly, one such initiative that rarely gets any media attention is the Arabia’s Wildlife Centre, located at the Sharjah Desert Park.
The Sharjah Desert Park is separated into four distinct areas:
Natural History Museum
What sets the Natural History Museum apart, from other local museums, is its focus on the history of the Middle East rather than just the UAE. Major sections in the museum include Geology - a look at how the Middle East and early life was formed; Flora - plant life and desert ecology; Marine - overview of various aquatic life in the region. Set aside about 1 hour to go through the entire museum.
Arabia’s Wildlife Centre
More than just a zoo, the Arabia’s Wildlife Centre brings various reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, birds and mammals, from the Middle East, under one roof for all to see! The first section is the Reptile and Insect House; you’ll get to see various snakes, beetles, lizards, scorpions, frogs and toads. Next up, is a large indoor Aviary where none of the birds are kept in cages and are left to fly freely… might want to watch out for any presents as they fly overhead. You’ll know the moment you’ve entered the Nocturnal section from the pitch black surroundings. Once adjusted to the low light - bats, rats and nocturnal cats are some of the various attractions to see in this section. Finally, the end of the centre is home to some of the bigger animals in the region with baboons, cheetahs and leopards making their appearance. Set aside about 1 hour and a half to take in all the exhibits.
Children’s Farm
A chance for kids (and adults) to get up close and personal with animals. Don’t expect anything exotic though, the animals that you’ll find in this centre are the domesticated ones - goats, chickens, cows, camels, horses, ducks and donkeys. You’ll also find bins with hay and grass if you want to try feeding the animals… watch your fingers!
Breeding Centre
Off limits to the general public, the Breeding Centre was setup to help in the conservation and protection of endangered species in the region. One such project, the Arabian Leopard Project, looks at boosting the population of the Arabian Leopard whose numbers have dwindled to less than 100 in the region.
For more info, the Sharjah Desert Park can be contacted on 06 5311999. The park is open weekdays from 09:00 - 18:00 (closed on Monday), Thursday 11:00 - 18:00 and Friday 14:00 - 18:00. Adults Dhs 15, Children under 16 free.
du or pu?

…that reading as poo / p.u. / your interpretation.
So its been 2 months since I got my du number and my experience has so far been well… poo. Constant dropouts, network busy errors, poor reception, the list goes on! For the longest time you couldn’t even call a toll-free number (800/etc), although that seems to have been fixed now.
What really irritates me is not so much their lack of service, but rather their disservice to everyone that has been looking forward to switching over from Etisalat. After years of living through a monopoly, here was the one way we could kick Etisalat where it really hurts… but all du has ended up du-ing is convincing us to go back to Etisalat.
I have no doubt that, in time, du’s network will eventually be as strong as Etisalat, but the bottom line is that du *should not* have started their services without ironing out all its connectivity issues… until then, Etisalat still gets my money.
So what has your experience of du been? Answers to the poll on your right.
All those of you who’ve decided to keep both your Etisalat and du number, diverting one to the other, STOP! As I found out the hard way, you will be charged for diverted calls between networks. Any calls that I received on my Etisalat number (which was diverted to my du number) were charged back to me and that too for the entire duration of the call! Some things never change…
Assistance?
Emirates Today’s proof readers must have clocked off early on the 12th April; attached is an article from that issue.

Nothing too exciting, the regular man-complains-to-paper, company-responds-to-paper, paper-helps-kiss-and-make-up article. Short version, passenger leaves numerous messages for airline, never got called back, airline apologises for lack of response, recommends that passengers should email for quick assistance. Seems like good advice, however, on closer inspection

Hmmm… for a budget airline, Al Jazeera Airways sure knows how to offer some first class service! Suddenly their cabin crew announcement seem to make a lot more sense.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, thank you for flying with us today. If there is anything we can do to make your journey more pleasurable, please let us know. In a few moments we’ll be screening a safety video…
Warning!
This pic was taken a while back at Dubai Media City when they started work on the multi-story car park between Building 4 and 6.

well… at least they were nice enough to put up a warning sign.
Random Recipes 1
Recipes to some of the posts you’ll see on the Random Rambler.
Friday Faux Pas
Ingredients:
- 202 nationalities
- 1 common language
- essence of business initiative
Preparation:
Place 202 nationalities in mixer and blend for 35 years. Strain mixture using a common language filter, discarding pulp left behind. Finally, add essence of business initiative and wait for hilarity to rise. Best served on signs, billboards and restaurant menus.
Hidden Gems
Ingredients:
- 1 UAE
Preparation:
Begin by popping bubble surrounding UAE with a pointed needle. Next peel away the layers of islands, hotels, festivals and property developments. Once outer shell has been stripped, use a sharp knife to cut through the inflation, traffic and construction. Look and carefully extract (may require magnifying glass and tweezers) any shining glimmer that may be embedded within the core. Best served with a slice of reality.
Media Miscue
Ingredients:
- Assortment of press releases and editorial leads
- A handful of overworked and underpaid editors (can be substituted with handful of clueless editors)
- 1 underworked & overpaid boss
Preparation:
Mix assorted press releases, editorial leads and editors in a large bowl. Knead editors with assortment continuously using boss. Stop when there are no more bubbles of complaint. Place mixture bowl in oven, adjusting time to preset deadline. Remove mixture from oven 2 hours earlier than set deadline. Best served on newspapers, magazines and any other print media.

Numero Uno
Salaam, Hello, Namaste, Bonjour, Ni Hao, and Guten Tag!
*This* has been a long time coming… a good couple of years overdue, to be somewhat exact. Oh well. So what’s this site all about? Well it’ll probably be easier for me explain by starting with what this site is NOT about.
This site is not going be
- a diary on my life… my friends… my work… the life of my friends at work or any other combination of the prior three topics.
- a news / gossip / community site.
- daily.
Now, for those of you still reading at this point… this site will, for the most part, be Dubai / UAE centric. There’s a lot of quirkiness (is that even a word?) around this part of the world; from cultural sensitivities to inane laws to words getting lost in translation… all of which will make for some pretty funny posts, I guarantee! Next, most of the content on this site will be photography / illustration driven and part of the reason for that is for me to get off my lazy ass and do more of it. Though it remains to be seen if that strategy works out. What else can you expect? There’ll be some regular weekly posts, Friday Faux Pas, Media Miscues, Hidden Gems, Photoslops, some rantings and definitely some ramblings….
Welcome to The Random Rambler.
